RACE REPORTS

ROAD ATLANTA

This was the inaugural visit for the ChumpCar World Series at the Internationally known Road Atlanta sports car course in Braselton, GA.

The Saturday race was a 10 hour enduro and in typical TAJ Racing fashion, we were the first car on track behind the pace car resulting in the Gulf Coast Rebar, The deMoya Group #46 Ford Mustang starting from the pole position.  Usually it is a blind draw as far as the starting grid goes, but this time it wasn't.  John Bolles stayed up front among the leaders through the first red flag for oil cleanup.  After more green flag racing, a full course yellow (FCY) came out within our pit window.  TAJ Racing took advantage of the FCY and we were able to stay with the leaders through our first pit stop and driver change.  Dr. Richard Lockwood took over followed by Travis Floyd and John Floyd.

The TAJ Racing Ford Mustang stayed in the top 10 all day to finish 9th overall out of 66 original starters.  We all felt we could have improved our position late in the race but a rash of FCY and red flags slowed our progress to the top.

Since this was a double event weekend for the CCWS, we had a 4 hour Sprint race on Sunday as well!    Travis Floyd started the race for TAJ Racing.  We weren't as fortunate with our starting position this time by starting the race in the 20th position.  While battling traffic early on T Floyd spun exiting Turn 5 and dropped back to 35th.  In a comeback drive that could be only described as "EPIC", T Floyd fought hard to a 16th place before the first round of pit stops.

John Floyd backed up an awesome performance from Saturday by posting the second fastest lap time for TAJ Racing during his Sunday stint and moving us up into the top 12.  Again, FCY and red flags plagued the end of the race but Lockwood and Bolles drove hard to get us our second Top 10 finish of the weekend!   Once again we finished 9th out of 50 starters that took the green flag on Sunday.

TAJ Racing would like to thank The deMoya Group, Gulf Coast Rebar, Porterfield Brakes, RaceQuip, Posey Power and Creative Welding and Fabrication for all their help and support!!  We would also like to thank The ChumpCar World Series and Road Atlanta for putting on a great event!
